Serdica was the favorite town of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great (306 – 337), who used to say: “Serdica is my Rome”

It was in Serdica where the decision the capital of the East Roman Empire to be placed in Constantinople was adopted, and during its construction, Constantine ruled from Serdica.
